Our Mission

Our mission is to build democracy through citizen service, civic leadership and social entrepreneurship. It is through service that we can demonstrate the power and idealism of young people, engage citizens to benefit the common good, and develop young leaders of the next generation.

About City Year New York

City Year members begin the day by energetically greeting students at various arrival points throughout the school. City Year members continue their day within eleven 3rd-5th grade classrooms. In these classrooms City Year members provide math, reading, and writing tutoring for both small groups and the classroom at large. In addition to academic tutoring, City Year members also provide attendance conversations to students that face obstacles when trying to regularly attend school. It is our belief that through these conversations, City Year members can work with our students to figure out strategies to manage these challenges while improving their attendance. When City Year members are not in our classrooms, you can find us managing our afterschool program and/or planning the logistics for various events that we put on for our schoolhouse community.

Afterschool Program Information

City Year Afterschool at PS149Q looks to foster an educational atmosphere by providing assistance on homework and social-emotional development. On that note, we work with students on social-emotional development by providing them with an opportunity to interact with ourselves and their peers during daily snack and club times.

City Year New York Hours

  • School Day: 8:00 AM - 2:50 PM
  • Afterschool: 2:50 PM - 6:00 PM
